Independence of the Seas leaving UK for Florida

North American travel agents
will get another big Royal Caribbean International ship to sell in 2020 with
the announcement that the Independence of the Seas will skip its traditional
summer season sailing from the United Kingdom.

Instead, the Indy will move
to Port Everglades for cruises that will include Royal’s new Perfect Day at
CocoCay island in the Bahamas.

Independence of the Seas was
the first ship to receive the Royal Amplified improvements that include a
Playmakers Sports Bar and Arcade, a Skypad trampoline attraction and other
improvements.

The 2008-built Independence
carries 3,634 passengers at double occupancy.

Royal officials attributed
the move more to the strength of sailings that have CocoCay in their
itineraries than any softness in the UK cruise market caused by Brexit.

Ben Bouldin, associate vice
president and managing director, Royal Caribbean International UK &
Ireland, said guests affected by the itinerary change will be offered full
refunds, and a ‘Future Cruise Credit’ for 25% of their cruise ticket
value.

The Anthem of the Seas
remains in the U.K. market in the summer of 2020.
