Sossusvlei Desert Lodge to reopen in October

AndBeyond will reopen the Sossusvlei Desert Lodge in October after an extensive refurbishment.

Situated in the NamibRand Nature Reserve, one of Southern Africa’s largest private conservation areas and the continent’s only Dark Sky Reserve, the lodge will receive a new design that is expected to blend into the natural environment of the surrounding desert.

The new building will comprise a series of glass, rock and steel pavilions built to withstand the extreme elements. Ten glass-fronted suites will offer visitors magnificent desert views, while enlarged skylights over each bed enable guests to take in the night sky.

The new Star Dune Suite will consist of two en-suite bedrooms linked by a communal guest area, complete with private lounge and dining area. Designed with families in mind, the suite is complemented by a host of interactive children’s activities.

A new gym and spa area is also in the plans and will offer elevated views of the desert, with the spa boasting its own skylight.

Travelers will be able to choose from a selection of activities, ranging from the traditional bucket list desert adventures to far more exclusive experiences. AndBeyond is touting a dune ecology experience that is conducted by a specialist guide and showcases the small wonders of the desert.
