United Airlines has sent Star Wars universe into a frenzy.
The airline showed off photos and a model of a Boeing 737-800 that it will mark up and debut later this fall in honor of the Dec. 20 release of “Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.”
United made the announcement on its home turf in Chicago during the city’s Star Wars Celebration.

The livery will include the new film’s logo, as well as other Star Wars imagery including a lightsaber on either side of the plane’s tail.
As you might expect, Star Wars fans and United employees were beside themselves.
Best plane paint job ever!!! Love @united , love @starwars and love @staralliance https://t.co/k2t3DKM1r9
@united Does this plane have deflector shields and a hyperdrive? How about ion cannons?
“The aircraft will be exploring the ‘domestic galaxy’ and will not be assigned a specific route, meaning customers across the US may have the opportunity to travel on this unique plane,” United spokesperson Natalie Noonan told CNET.
United is also giving away two tickets to the premiere of the film. Retweet the airline’s Twitter announcement to qualify; so far, United’s tweet has been retweeted almost 10,000 times in a day and a half.
The trailer for “Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker” also dropped this week. Plus, new details for Disney’s Star Wars Galaxy Edge were also unveiled this weekend.
