Sticky Vicky’s daughter backs Daily Star’s campaign for ‘great tribute’ to icon

María Gadea Aragues, the daughter of iconic Benidorm star Sticky Vicky, who now performs the act herself in "memory" of her mother has spoken out in support of a plaque being erected for her mother in Benidorm town. María spoke to Daily Star exclusively, following the passing of her mum, dancer Vicky Leyton, on Wednesday 29 November.

Sticky Vicky, real name Victoria María Aragüés Gadea, died of heart failure this week at the ripe age of 80. The entertainer is best known for her magical illusion show where she pulled everything from ping-pong balls to machetes, eggs and sausages from her vagina.

Maria stated that she was "in a cloud" after her mother's death and "can't believe that [her] mother is no longer here." However she has recieved an outpouring of support and told the Daily Star: "My mother's fans are the best, everyone is affected, they encourage me and make me feel even more proud of my mother".

While Vicky's show was controversial when she launched it in the Costa Blanca party town it soon put Benidorm on the map, according to local business owners and residents. Tributes have since poured in and people have called for Sticky Vicky to be honoured with a plaque – and we've started a petition to do just that which you can sign here.

Daughter Maria said she "absolutely supports" the idea and agreed that it would be "incredible" if the Daily Star manages to get the late star the memorial plaque. She added: "My mother is a great artist, a fighter, an innovator. She is a legend."

However, she noted that the final decision was up to Benidorm City council. Maria added: "I think she deserves a great tribute. I lived with her, I was with her 24-hours a day. I loved seeing her wake up in the morning always smiling very sweetly. I'm going to miss that."

Maria, who performs the illusion acts at the Benidorm Palladium, added that her mother, Sticky Vicky, knew that she was loved by a lot of people but "didn't imagine how much" in the wake of dozens of tributes online. She commented: "I could never imagine this reaction. I never thought that my mother would leave, but it has been incredible. But, being honest, it makes me cry every time I see a post [about] her."

Despite her grief, Maria plans to honour her mum by making sure the show goes on! She told Daily Star that fans can see the real deal act this month in Benidorm.

Maria said: "We start the shows on December 23 at Benidorm Palladium and Rockerfellas Cabarets. I don't know if [mum's fans] will come, but what I do hope is that they come to see the real daughter and not fake Sticky Vicky."

The devastated Maria added: "Now, I need time, [from] now, doing the show every day will be in memory of my mother and dedicated to her." She's not the only person to have spoken out following the passing of Sticky Vicky.

Frank, @frankthestagman, is known for throwing extreme stag dos featuring strippers and raunchy acts in the party town. He and his partner extreme sex show performer Jade Benidorm spoke to the Daily Star about Sticky Vicky’s impact on Benidorm as a holiday destination.

He added: "She was such an important part of what has grown Benidorm into what it is. Back in the day, it was just another coastal town and there’s hundreds up and down the coast. All the others have sunshine and beaches.

"You’ve got Alicante, the capital, which is huge and has all the resources, it’s beautiful. But, Benidorm came up and the answer is simple – what Benidorm needed all those years ago was something for people to talk about, something that people were going to come and want to see."
