The beautiful seaside town with few tourists but some of UK’s best wildlife

A beautiful little British seaside town has been praised for its lack of tourists while being packed with some of the UK’s best wildlife.

Eyemouth in Berwickshire, Scotland, features stunning seaside scenes with its harbour littered with traditional fishing boats and working fishermen.

Giant rocks are positioned across its coastline descending into the sea while its 90m cliffs at St Abb’s Head are filled with wildlife such as puffins, skuas, shags and fulmars.

Seals have also been spotted lounging around on its coastline, but while the town is a hive of activity from both animals and humans, tourists are scarce.

This may be in part down to the fact the town does not have a station, with the nearest a 15-minute drive away in Berwick.

Until 1962 the town was served by Eyemouth Railway Station until it was closed due to flooding. But for those who drive, the town is about an hour away from Edinburgh by road.

Tourist attractions include the 18th-century Gunsgreen House which was once inhabited by John Nisbet, who was a local merchant by day, but a notorious smuggler by night.

Visitors can take a tour of the house or even stay in Nisbet’s tower or the house itself overnight.

The town is packed with small independent cafes and shops including the highly praised Rialto which locals praise for its warm welcome and quality coffee.

It also has two niche fish and chip shops which also operate as ice cream parlours in Giacopazzi’s and Mackay’s.

Those wishing to experience the town for themselves can stay in the town’s central Home Arms bed and breakfast for £85 per night in January.
