After a very busy 2022, travel to Europe will rise 55% this summer, according to travel insurance vendor Allianz Partners.

Allianz analyzed flight itineraries for trips of five to eight days between Memorial Day and Labor Day. For travelers heading to Europe, 25% are headed to London, the most popular destination.

Like last year, Paris and Dublin are second and third, with Rome taking fourth and Reykjavik fifth. The top 10 is rounded out by Edinburgh, Scotland; Athens; Amsterdam; Lisbon, Portugal; and Milan, Italy.

It is Milan’s first appearance in Allianz’s top 10 since the company began its summer travel study in 2015. For the first time, Barcelona was knocked off the list.

European travel exploded last summer after two years of pandemic restrictions. Last year, Allianz reported a 600% increase in Americans traveling to Europe.

Allianz found that most American travelers will fly to a U.S. destination this summer. Of the 1.6 million flight itineraries analyzed, 73% were for domestic trips and 27% were for international trips.

Domestically, perennial favorite Orlando is the most popular. Internationally, Cancun tops the list. Daniel Durazo, director of external communications for Allianz Partners USA, called both “tried-and-true destinations trusted to deliver some of the most memorable vacations.”

Domestically, the top 10 is Orlando, Seattle, Honolulu, Boston, Maui, New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami and Portland, Ore.

Internationally, the top 10 is Cancun; San Jose del Cabo, Mexico; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; Oranjestad, Aruba; Montego Bay, Jamaica; Nassau, Bahamas; Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; London; Providenciales, Turks and Caicos; and Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands.
