DJ wakes up to discover $2674 Uber charge

A stunned DJ woke up with a $2674 Uber bill after falling asleep in a car in London and waking up more than five hours away.

Chris Reed claims he dozed off after a night on the town and expected to be driven home to Croydon, in south London.

Instead, Reed, who goes by the stage name Plastician, opened his eyes and was faced with the unfamiliar surroundings of Sleaford, Lincolnshire, in the English Midlands, The Sun reported.

Spent this week trying to get answers from @uber as to how my driver managed to drive me halfway up the UK while I dozed off thinking I was headed from Fulham to Croydon.

Woken up in the Midlands!

An Uber employee at the call centre confirmed with me on Tuesday that my home address was on the booking when I called it in. They are now denying this yet have no proof that I ever entered an address in Sleaford – a destination I have never been to in my LIFE.

He said the final charge of the epic trip was £1453.86 or $A2674.35.

He added: “Don’t drink & drive but also, don’t drink and get in an @uber as this could happen to anyone.

“If I am forced to pay this ridiculous fare in its entirety then I at least hope it saves people reading this from the same happening to them.”

So after 4 frustrating days of trying to avoid having to plaster this over socials, a reminder – @Uber take ZERO responsibility for their passenger’s safety. NO indication inside my app of that address being entered by me. Drivers can change destinations on trip.

An Uber spokeswoman told the Sun Online it was looking into the incident.

“All riders who request a ride can see the fare estimate for their destination before a trip begins, and we encourage riders to confirm their destination with the driver before a trip commences,” the spokeswoman added.

This is not the first time something like this has happened.

Last week, a clubber was shocked to wake up 160km from home with a $736 Uber bill.

And last year, an Uber customer was furious after the taxi app charged him $197 for what should have been an 8km trip from London to Luton.

Nick Brownridge, 32, said the journey should have cost around $18 but instead he was

charged for a 65km trip to Bedfordshire at 1am.
