Cruise lines often run themed cruises which may focus on a particular TV show or music genre. Some cruise guests may be surprised to learn that there are cruise holidays dedicated to swingers.
A guest shared on Reddit that they were currently on a swinging cruise with around 3,000 passengers.
Swinging cruises are usually full of passengers who take part in or are interested in the lifestyle.
There will be dedicated ‘playrooms’ for guests who want to take part and mixers for passengers to get to know each other.
But while some cruise enthusiasts seemed interested in the lifestyle, others shared some worries.
One person said: “I’ve made a mental note to check the schedules for this type of cruise prior to booking my next one, so that I can pick a cruise well after the ship has been through a few rounds of cleanings before I take my family on it.
“The thought of hanging out with my kid in public spaces where o**** were occuring a day or two prior is unsettling.”
Another guest added: “Call me a prude or a germophobe or whatever, but I’d just be a little more comfortable if the public space where a full-on sex party just occurred had been through a few extra cleaning cycles before I spend my time there eating, drinking, touching surfaces, etc.
“Can’t stress enough though, no judgement to those partaking! I hope they’re all having an absolutely titillating time.”
However, a swinging cruise guest claimed there was no need for other guests to worry about cleanliness.
They said: “Actually, this sailing is far cleaner than any other ones you’d be on. There are volunteers, extra staff, and far more attention to that kind of detail.
“I guarantee our sailing will be cleaner than the one you and your kid will ever be on.”
Staff will likely clean all surfaces and areas frequently on these cruises to make sure everything stays hygienic.
Another guest was panicked that they could end up accidentally booking onto this type of cruise.
They said: “Can someone unknowingly book themselves on what is predominantly a swingers’ cruise?
“Or are bookings only available through whatever group organises this? I’m lost how it all logistically works.”
Another guest said: “You would absolutely know you were booking a swinger cruise. For one, you can’t book it through the cruise line’s website.
“You have to go through a swinger travel agency or the charter company. Nobody is here who doesn’t want to be.”
Passengers don’t need to worry about accidentally ending up on a swingers’ cruise as details would be clearly listed at booking.
Several companies specifically offer these cruises and booking is carefully monitored to ensure everyone knows what they have signed up for.
However, some guests may wear clothing with upside down pineapples to demonstrate they are open to swinging.
Other passengers have reported spotting upside down pineapples hung on cabin doors on regular cruises.
