Cruise lines relaunch service over weekend

A host of cruise lines launched service this weekend for the first time since the global cruise shutdown in March 2020. 

Carnival Cruise Line’s first cruise in nearly 16 months departed from Galveston, Texas, on July 3. The Carnival Vista departed on a weeklong cruise with stops in Mahogany Bay in Roatan, Honduras, Cozumel and Belize City.

Carnival’s first cruise from PortMiami departed July 4 when the Carnival Horizon set sail on a six-day cruise to Mahogany Bay and Half Moon Cay, Carnival Corp.’s private Bahamian island.

On July 3, Crystal Cruises resumed ocean cruise operations with the Crystal Serenity’s departure from the Port of Nassau on a seven-day cruise to the outer islands of the Bahamas. Seabourn resumed operations on the Seabourn Ovation with a seven-day sailing from Piraeus (Athens), Greece.

Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean International resumed their restarts with the Celebrity Flora’s sailing in the Galapagos Islands on July 4 becoming the first of Celebrity’s three ships that will launch service in the archipelago this summer. Royal Caribbean’s first ship to set sail from the U.S., the Freedom of the Seas, departed from PortMiami on July 2 on a three-day sailing to Perfect Day at CocoCay,  the line’s private island in the Bahamas, and Nassau.
