Cruise: The best cruise line for 2019 revealed – do you have any holidays with the winner?

Cruise ship holidays are always best if Britons travel with the cruise line they’re happiest. If globetrotters are after luxury, family travel or expedition trips there is a cruise suitable for them. The British Cruise Awards have ranked cruise companies by category as well as revealing the number one best cruise line of all for this year. The awards ceremony took place at the House of Lords on Thursday 5 September.

Cruise ship holidays: The best cruise line for 2019 revealed as Viking Cruises

The Best Cruise Line for 2019 is Switzerland-based Viking Cruises which provides river and ocean cruises.

The Viking Sun’s 245-day Ultimate World Cruise started at the beginning of September. 

This will see its passengers experience six continents, 59 countries and 113 of the world’s greatest cities and ports, and not return to home turf until May 2, 2020.

Viking was also ‘Commended’ for Best Culinary Experience (the winner being Oceania Cruises).

The second best cruise line, awarded ‘Commended,’ was Princess Cruises which also won Best Cruise Enhancement, with Azamara ‘Commended.’

Viking was also named the winner in the Best River Cruise Line category, while Emerald Waterways came in second place.

Emerald Waterways was also ‘Commended’ as Best Luxury River Cruise Line (the winning title went to Scenic) and won Best for Destination Immersion with Oceania Cruises ‘Commended.’

Silversea Cruises was crowned the Best Luxury Cruise Line while Celebrity Cruises was ‘Commended.’

Ultra-luxury cruise line Silversea is headquartered in Monaco. In 2017 the line unveiled the Silver Muse – Silversea’s first new ship for eight years. 

Every cabin on the Muse is a suite, each fitted with marble bathrooms and walk-in wardrobes, covering a standard layout of 400 square feet.

Every room comes with its own butler who greets their guests with drinks on arrival. They also unpack bags and cater to any requests you might have whilst on board.

Silversea was the winner of Best Expedition Cruise Line, with Hapag-Lloyd Expeditions in second place. It was also ‘Commended’ as Best Boutique Cruise Line and Best for Onboard Accommodation.

The Best Value for Money Cruise Line was Marella Cruises while P&O were ‘Commended.’

In August, Marella announced the appointment of a new member of staff – Head of Nautical Smiles. 

The Best Family Cruise Line was Norwegian Cruise Line followed by Disney Cruise Line. Best for Solo Travellers was Saga Cruises, with Fred. Olsen in second place. Holland America won Best for Onboard Spa & Wellbeing and Seabourn was ‘Commended.’

Norwegian Cruise Line won Best for Innovation followed by Celebrity Cruises. The Best New Ship was named the Celebrity Edge while the MSC Bellissima was ‘Commended.’
