Holland America, Princess and Seabourn delay ship restarts

Three Carnival Corp. brands updated their Covid-era restart plans, pushing back the start date on several vessels from winter to spring 2022.

Holland America Line will now restart the Volendam and Zaandam in May, canceling the ships’ winter 2022 sailings.

Starting May 1, the the Volendam will offer cruises from 14 to 35 days to the Baltic, Norway up to North Cape and Spitsbergen, British Isles and Iceland, all roundtrip from Rotterdam, Netherlands. The Zaandam will start May 12 and sail between Boston and Montreal.

The Volendam’s 2022 Grand South America and Antarctica Voyage and the Zaandam’s 2022 Grand World Voyage have been canceled and moved to 2023.  

The line’s Eurodam, Koningsdam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Nieuw Statendam, Rotterdam and Zuiderdam are all in service or are scheduled to return to service by November.

Princess Cruises’ Island Princess and Diamond Princess will return to service in the spring on Caribbean and Japan sailings, respectively. As a result, Princess canceled the Diamond Princess’ 2021-2022 South America & Antarctica program and the Island Princess’ World Cruise and two December sailings.

Princess will have eight ships in service or scheduled to resume service by Nov 28: the Majestic Princess, Grand Princess, Ruby Princess, Enchanted Princess, Sky Princess, Regal Princess, Caribbean Princess and Emerald Princess.

Seabourn, currently operating two of the five ships in its fleet, said the Seabourn Sojourn will launch in the Mediterranean on June 6. The ship had been scheduled to sail a 145-day World Cruise departing Jan. 11 from Los Angeles. The 2024 World Cruise itinerary will replicate the 2022 World Cruise, the line said.

The ship will spend summer 2022 in the Western Med.
