Norwegian Viva will feature a production of 'Beetlejuice'
Norwegian Cruise Line will stage a production of the Broadway musical “Beetlejuice” on its newest ship, the Norwegian Viva, when it debuts in August.
The Viva will be the first cruise ship to stage a performance of the Tony Award-nominated musical. The 90-minute adaptation of Tim Burton’s 1988 film of the same name will be performed in the ship’s three-story, multi-purpose Viva Theatre & Club.
Michelle D’Amico, a cast member of the Broadway production of “Beetlejuice,” will play the role of Lydia for the Viva’s adaption of the show.
Beetlejuice will headline a lineup of onboard entertainment that includes a new live game show experience with “Press Your Luck LIVE” at sea. The Viva will also feature offerings found on other NCL ships, such as “Improv @ Sea” Comedy Club and “Syd Norman’s Pour House,” featuring rock-and-roll tributes to Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones and other legendary artists in the classic rock genre.
NCL senior vice president of entertainment Richard Ambrose said that the Viva Theater & Club transforms from “a best-in-class theater experience to an expansive nightclub.” It will also host Vegas-style nightclub events such as “Ocean Music Fest,” where multiple musicians will merge their music on one stage for an immersive concert.
The Viva is the second of six vessels in the NCL’s Prima class. The first ship in the class, the Norwegian Prima, debuted “Summer: The Donna Summer Musical” last fall.
