Tallinn opens new cruise terminal

The Port of Tallinn in Estonia has opened a new cruise terminal powered by sun and sea.

The port said it installed solar panels tailored for the Nordic climate, and that the terminal is heated by sea power using a heat pump.

MSC Group has partnered with Fincantieri on the construction of its new cruise terminal at PortMiami, scheduled to open in late 2023.

“These decisions allow the facility to operate outside the cruise season — hosting events, concerts, and conferences,” the Port of Tallinn said.

A new promenade has opened, connecting cruise guests with tourist attractions in port such as the Patarei Sea Fortress, which now is home to bars, food trucks and open-air events.

Another port attraction is the Seaplane Harbour, a three-level naval museum housed in a hangar featuring historical ships and submarines. Noblessner, a cultural area, features high-end restaurants, museums and many bars.

The completion of the promenade project “further diversifies the tourist potential of short-term visits to the city of Tallinn,” the port said.
