McEnroe brothers will host a Tanzania tour

John and Patrick McEnroe will host a Tanzania tour in December that will include playing each other in an exhibition tennis match on a court built in the Serengeti.

Aside from safari drives and numerous tennis-themed activities, the 120-person tour will include a reception with Tanzanian president Samia Suluhu Hassan and a dinner with the McEnroe brothers. Higher-tiered packages include a VIP cocktail function with the tennis stars in a wine cellar, a group photo with them in the Serengeti and, at the highest level, a game of tennis with the McEnroes on the Serengeti court and accompanying them on a safari game drive and having a “tennis volley in the bush.”

The eight-day Insider Expeditions itinerary will include visits to Tanzania’s national parks, including the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, and stays at the AndBeyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, the Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti, Gran Melia Arusha and Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge, depending on the package tier.  https://insiderexpeditions.com/luxury-bucket-list-safari-in-tanzania-with-tennis-legends/

A chance to grow the sport in Africa

The Dec. 1-8 tour is part of an initiative to grow sports opportunities in the country. President Suluhu Hassan said the tour would help with “one of our key initiatives, which is to create more health and lifestyle opportunities for our young people.”

“This is going to be an absolutely great experience for us and as many [of my] kids as I can bring on the trip,” John McEnroe said during a press conference about the tour. He added that while he’s been on safari in Tanzania, he’s never played tennis there. “I’m excited, and hopefully it will add some interest in our sport in Africa. That’s long been a goal of for all of us involved in tennis. So hopefully this will move the needle in that regard.”

Guests will join the McEnroes on a visit to a traditional Masai village meant to introduce the youth to the game of tennis as part of a special court dedication. The court will be set up temporarily so as not to disturb the wildlife.

Tour packages include all meals on an all-inclusive basis, domestic air and almost daily safari drives. Insider Expeditions said the trip is fully commissionable for travel advisors and that the trip can be customized with different add-ons.

Proceeds from the tour will be donated to the Johnny Mac Tennis Project, dedicated to removing racial, social and economic barriers to success through tennis, and the Tanzania Youth Coalition, a consortium of more than 120 organizations creating opportunities for youth empowerment.
