Experiencing art in Seminyak begins right at the doorstep of Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach.
Each and every element of the hotel is deeply influenced by local art, culture and history of the Seminyak neighbourhood, from the design and structure of the property. In particular, the Songket, the traditional yet luxurious brocade textile in Indonesia, influences many aspects of the design and art found in the hotel.
In local language Songket means ‘to hook’ which reflects the intricate process of weaving by hand different coloured threads into silk to create geometric patterns on the fabric. You’ll easily recognise the familiar patterns of the Songket art in all forms in the property, from sprawling murals in rooms to the handcrafted furnishings around the hotel.
The vibrant street art of Seminyak
Outside the hotel, you need not venture far to see some of Bali’s best local artworks as vibrant, expansive street art murals greet you with their visually arresting colours. Whether on café shopfronts or down the alley of bustling streets, you’ll be hard pressed to find a spot where street art has not made its mark.
What’s especially unique about Seminyak’s street art is the community behind each work of art. Many are co-created by art collectives comprising talented local and foreign street artists who gather informally, making it a challenge for fans to identify a specific artist to attribute the artwork to. But one thing for sure is the output resulting from the collaborative effort – beautiful art that carries a distinct blend of Balinese traditions and international flavours that beautifully mirrors the island’s creative and pulsating energy.
