You don’t need to ski to enjoy Sun Peaks Resort

Travel agents who enjoyed a recent educational visit to Sun Peaks Resort say there’s no need to strap on skis to have a fabulous time in Canada’s second largest ski area.

Sun Peak boasts a fantastic variety of ski terrain, but the off-piste activities really wowed the 30 travel agents who visited the resort during the Sno’n’Ski Canada Mega Famil.

After being treated to a multi-course welcome lunch at the lively Masa’s Bar & Grill, the group geared up for a Moonlight Snowshoe tour with Discover Sun Peaks Adventures.

The mellow hike to the campfire site was broken up by a spontaneous group snowball fight in the setting sun, ensuring the Mega Fam agents were well and truly ready for their s’mores and cider.

Agents sought out further off-piste fun the following day, signing up for the quintessential Canadian winter activities of dog sledding and ice fishing.

Emily Goddard from Flight Centre St Ives says that ice fishing with Elevation Fishing Adventures was more exhilarating than she ever imagined.

“You think you’re going to be shivering in a hut for hours, but it was completely different.” says Emily.

“We got to drill the hole in the ice ourselves, then we kicked back in the sun with a few drinks and enjoyed an experience you can’t have many places in the world.”

“I can’t describe to you how thrilling it is to pull a trout up through that hole in the ice – but we let them go with a kiss, Rex Hunt style.”

The dog sledding group members were equally as ecstatic about their afternoon with the huskies.

Annabel Edgecombe from Flight Centre Indooroopilly says dog sledding with Mountain Man Dog Sled Adventures is a must for any animal lover.

“We gained so much insight into how the huskies are trained, and we even got to drive the sled!” says Annabel.

“Whisking along those scenic alpine trails was like being in a fairytale, but witnessing the connection that Chris [guide and driver] has with the huskies was where I saw the true magic.”

Sun Peaks was the third stop on the Sno’n’Ski Canada Mega Famil, which hosts 30 top-selling agents on an educational exploration of British Columbia’s premier ski resorts.
