Bloom time for Virgin Hotels in Scotland

The design will blend the building’s historic features with a focus on style and sophistication, mixing old and new in a nod to Edinburgh’s character.

The 242-room property will overlook the River Clyde in the heart of Glasgow’s shopping district.

Why Scotland?

“We are seeing a great deal of resilience in Scotland, with local commerce and global appeal making a return,” said Virgin Hotels CEO James Bermingham.

“As we restore historic buildings, dating back to the 1860s in Edinburgh and tapping into the creative culture in Glasgow, we are becoming a part of this resurgence, offering a place to merge modern luxuries with authentic cultural immersion that international travelers and local staycationers are seeking.”

He cited Glasgow and Edinburgh, in particular, as being at the intersection of culture and innovation, with their blend of heritage, art, music and shopping as among the draws that have made both destinations especially appealing to international travelers.

As to what protocols are in place to reassure visitors from North America who might be nervous to travel, Bermingham said: “Our Virgin Hotels app ‘Lucy’ empowers guests to control the level of interaction they have with hotel teammates and have a touch-free experience if desired.

“Anything from room service, thermostat, check-out, television controls and minibar are all available in one tap. Our teams have maintained social distancing standards to ensure guest comfortability, and our cleaning protocol has stayed as vigilant and thorough from Day One of the pandemic and before.”
