AA boosting winter service to Caribbean and Latin America

American Airlines is increasing its winter 2023 seat capacity and frequencies to the Caribbean and Latin America. The carrier said it is adding two routes to Cancun (from Nashville and Cincinnati) and expanding frequencies on 21 others in the region.

From Charlotte, starting Dec. 5, American will increase seat capacity by 40% to the region compared with its and expand service on 10 routes.

Among the changes:
• The airline will offer daily service from Charlotte Douglas to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, and St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, markets where it offered just Saturday service a year ago. 
• Montego Bay, Jamaica; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; and San Juan will see four daily flights from Charlotte, one more than last season’s offering. Service to St. Thomas, USVI, will increase to from daily to twice-daily flights.

In addition to the Charlotte service increases, AA said that starting Nov. 5 it will double its daily flights from one to two from Miami to Port of Spain, Trinidad, and to Santiago, Dominican Republic. A Miami route to Tortola, British Virgin Islands, which launched on June 1, will also increase from daily to twice-daily service.

“This coming winter we’re looking forward to adding more service to the destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean that our customers want to visit, including popular spots like Cancun, Montego Bay and Punta Cana, as well as our newest destination, Tortola,” said Jose A. Freig, vice president of operations and commercial for Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America.
