Dominica's Fort Young offers all-inclusive with off-resort experiences
Fort Young Hotel & Dive Resort, Dominica’s only downtown hotel located on the waterfront in Roseau, is the destination’s first all-inclusive resort.
Beyond the offerings of a traditional all-inclusive property with food and beverages included, Fort Young offers access to activities beyond the hotel, including a lionfish-catching expedition; hiking to attractions such as Trafalgar Falls, Titou Gorge, Spanny and Jacko Falls and sections of the Waitukubull National Trail; visits to beaches and dive sites; and a guided walking tour of Roseau.
“Fort Young Hotels has always been a gateway to Dominica’s sights and landmarks, so it was a natural evolution to introduce this all-inclusive, island-exclusive offering,” said Dinesh Kissoon, Fort Young’s general manager.
“We wanted to offer travelers to Dominica a seamless, effortless and authentic way to experience the local culture and our land and sea,” she said. “Doing an all-inclusive with island activities included is a way of engaging our community and of giving our guests a more robust and immersive experience.”
Off-property activities feature a community touch point, such as a sweet treat or cocoa tea from a local restaurant or rum shop, a visit to nearby arts and crafts center or browsing a downtown market for fresh produce and wares.
The property aims to connect independent tour providers and local food and beverage outlets with guests while supporting the community at large.
Fort Young’s all-inclusive package requires a minimum five-night stay and includes daily breakfast; two-course lunch; afternoon snacks and a three-course dinner; unlimited house beverages; and alcoholic drinks from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. It also includes a selection of daily scheduled water or land expeditions; a beach discovery visit; roundtrip transfers; a 60-minute massage; unlimited, unguided shore scuba diving; use of kayaks; national park fees and entrance fees; and all taxes and charges.
Rates start at $349 per person, per night, double in a newly redone oceanfront room. Upgrades are available to include more adventures, including swimming with the island’s resident sperm whales, canyoning, night snorkeling, exploring Kalinago Territory and hiking to Boiling Lake. Three alternative packages include only breakfast and/or activities.
Meanwhile, enhancements to the property are ongoing. It recently unveiled 31 upgraded oceanfront rooms, and still to come are two oceanfront suites, six oceanfront junior suites with kitchenettes and interconnecting rooms, a new waterfront spa and 24-hour gym, 60 Fort rooms, a wellness center, new bar and lounge, a 200-seat conference room, a 250-seat sun deck, art gallery, a wine and rum cellar and three meeting rooms.
