Fall cultural celebrations at Waikiki Beach Walk: Travel Weekly
Waikiki Beach Walk, at Lewers Street and Kalakaua Avenue, will play host to live music and hula performances during the months of September and October. The performances will coincide with the month-long celebration of the Aloha Festivals.
“As part of our commitment to Malama Hawaii, Waikiki Beach Walk invites travelers to experience the Hawaiian Islands on a deeper level with a great emphasis on connecting with our culture,” said Blaine Kia, entertainment director and cultural advisor for Waikiki Beach Walk, in a press release. “By highlighting our rich history and important cultural practices such as music and dance, it is our goal to perpetuate and share Hawaii’s moolelo (stories) with our residents and visitors.”
On Friday, Sept. 16, events will include an appearance by the Aloha Festivals Royal Court and an afternoon lineup of live Hawaiian entertainment, including music and hula from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. More local artists and hula halau will perform the next day, as part of the annual Waikiki Hoolaulea.
On Saturday, Oct. 15, a tribute to slack-key guitarist and singer Gabby Pahinui will take place with live music at 4:30 p.m., and on Sunday, Oct. 16, noted steel-guitar player Greg Sardinha & Friends will take the stage at 5 p.m.
