Getting far away from it all at remote Casa Chable

The Riviera Maya is not lacking for ultimate wellness experiences; the spas along Mexico’s Caribbean coast are among the best in the world. But this stretch of sugary sand is poised to welcome a newcomer that will certainly turn many heads in the wellness world.

Casa Chable promises to be something truly special, thanks to its enviable address within the protected, pristine Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. It is the latest endeavor of Chable Hotels, which has made a splash in the luxury world with its properties in Yucatan and Maroma.

The plan is for a spring debut for the resort, with a tentative opening date in June.

Sian Ka’an begins just south of Tulum and covers more than 2,000 square miles of preserved habitat on both land and sea. Within the World Heritage Site are thousands of species of flora and fauna and some of the most picture-perfect Caribbean beaches you could imagine. If you thought Tulum’s beaches were A-level, just wait until you catch a glimpse of the bleached sand and turquoise waters within the Sian Ka’an biosphere.

The setting itself begs for a wellness vacation, with nothing but palm trees, thick jungle and the sound of gentle waves cresting onto powder-white beaches. 

Frequent visitors to the Mexican Caribbean may recognize the site as the former Casa Mukan; Chable Hotels has taken over the resort to transform it into one of its own. 

The journey to Casa Chable promises to set the “unplugged” tone right away. The Robinson Crusoe-like adventure begins at the entrance to the biosphere, where guests are carried by private boat through mangrove forests to arrive at the resort’s private dock. 

The entire ethos of the resort is about elevated escape. Surrounded by 12 acres of jungle, it is one of the more remote properties on the Caribbean coast. 

Casa Chable will feature only 10 units: five in the main house; three oceanview villas; one beachfront villa with a private garden; and a beachfront master villa. 

Everything clients need will be located on the property, including a thatched-roof gourmet restaurant; private beach with canopied daybeds, tipis and hammocks; and a rooftop lounge and bar. For wellness travelers, in addition to the built-in tranquility, the resort will feature an oceanfront wellness cabana as well as an outdoor wellness esplanade designed specifically for yoga and meditation.

The spa cabana will, of course, have a menu of body treatments, facials and massages, many of which will use local ingredients. But much of the wellness component at Casa Chable comes from soaking in its unique location within the biosphere. Whether it’s yoga on the beach, meditation, bike rides or snorkeling in the reef, the entire experience was designed with physical and mental wellness in mind.

Among the things that sets Casa Chable apart from other resorts in the area is, essentially, that it is one of the only resorts in the area. At a time when privacy is paramount with travelers, you can’t undersell that remoteness. The location also means guests will have easy access to world-class snorkeling and wildlife-viewing. The resort provides guests with paddleboards, kayaks and snorkeling gear. Guests can also head out to explore the nearby ruins of Muyil, an archaeological site far less visited than others in the region, as well as the crystal-clear waters of the nearby Laguna Kaan Luum.

Dining at the resort will be about incorporating local ingredients into the menu. The culinary program was designed by Jorge Vallejo, the chef and owner of the Mexico City restaurant Quintonil. Executive chef Alejandro Chavez will prepare the regional dishes of the Mexican Caribbean, using produce from the property’s organic garden as well as locally caught seafood.

Casa Chable incorporates wellness into its design as well as its experience, and that means wellness for the environment: It was designed to be a working part of the fragile coastal ecosystem. The resort is powered by renewable solar and wind energy and uses an ecosensitive water-filtration system.

The resort is also part of the brand’s partnership with Comunal, which is a Mexican organization that promotes environmental conservation, sustainability and social responsibility.

Rates at Casa Chable will start at $609 per night. Full property buyouts will be available from $6,750 for up to 22 people. The property is not yet accepting bookings.
