Plaza's new Main Street entrance a destination in itself

The Plaza Hotel & Casino in downtown Las Vegas unveiled its new Main Street entrance, which is a destination unto itself.

Four new venues have debuted as part of the yearlong project that reimagined the property’s historical Main Street facade and porte-cochere: the Carousel Bar, Pinkbox Doughnuts, the rooftop patio at Oscar’s steakhouse and Brian Christopher Slots at Plaza.

The 2,500-square-foot, outdoor Carousel Bar, under the Plaza’s distinctive dome, serves cocktails, beer, wine and mocktails among Vegas-themed elements. Carousel horses move up and down, and a martini glass has a spinning olive. An oversize deck of cards, a 14-foot-tall neon showgirl sign and a rotating ribbon of lights are other eye-catching elements. It includes Vegas’ only outdoor video poker machines, a cooling system and seating for almost 100 in booths, at the bar and along a rail that overlooks the Fremont Street Experience.

The Brian Christopher Slots area expands the social media influencer’s presence from 16 machines to 75. The space features amusing backdrops for selfies and group shots. It includes copyright-friendly songs that can be legally posted in videos on social platforms. Its location is in the downtown zone’s only smoke-free and social media-friendly gaming space.

Oscar’s rooftop patio, above the new gaming space, is accessible through the restaurant’s existing lounge and can accommodate about 225 people overlooking Fremont and Main streets. Mayor Carolyn Goodman and her husband, the former mayor and the steakhouse’s namesake, attended the ribbon-cutting for the project.

Pinkbox Doughnuts, the latest outpost of a Nevada-based franchise, greets guests through a 12-foot, 3-D doughnut entrance. The store has pink floor stripes and 3-D sprinkles, signature pink drips on the walls and a display case with more than 70 varieties of doughnuts.

In conjunction with the opening, the public is invited to name the Carousel Bar’s life-size showgirl. Potential names can be submitted online through July 10. The winner will be announced July 11 and will receive a two-night stay, a $100 gift certificate to the Carousel Bar, $250 to Oscar’s steakhouse and a dozen free doughnuts. The selected name will be engraved on the showgirl statue’s nameplate.
