The holiday season is the most magical time of the year. Christmas is right around the corner, and visions of roast beef, mashed potatoes, and homemade apple pie are dancing in your head. Sadly, you may not be home with your loved ones to bring that vision to life due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and might even be celebrating solo. That just means you’ll need to find some fun things to do by yourself over the holidays that’ll leave your heart so full.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stresses it’s safest to stay at home with the members of your immediate household and avoid traveling in order to prevent yourself and others from getting and/or spreading the coronavirus. But fear not, because there’s no cozier time to kick back and enjoy doing fun things by yourself that have been on your downtime bucket list.
Work or this past semester at school has likely been incredibly busy and stressful, so you’re feeling thankful for some much-needed "me time." Taking some solo time is equally as important as spending time with your family. After all, how often do you get to really enjoy quality time alone? That’s why we put together a list of fun things to do by yourself over the holiday season that’ll keep you very busy while also giving you fresh content for your Insta feed.
1. Do Some Online Shopping And Take Advantage Of The Sales
It’s the holiday season, so that means it’s officially sale season. With post-Christmas markdowns, there will be so many things you can consider treating yourself to with a little online shopping spree. (Your wallet will thank you later.) This is the ultimate time to use any gift cards you receive over the holidays and grab some fresh loungewear for the new year.
2. Enjoy A Hot Chocolate Bomb And Bake Some Holiday Treats
It’s time to count your blessings and enjoy the sweetest holiday-inspired treats of the season. Sip a hot chocolate bomb by the fireplace, curl up to read a festive romance novel while drinking an eggnog latte, or do both. It’s also a great time to bake your favorite cookies like chocolate mint crinkles and satisfy your sweet tooth at the same time.
3. Have A DIY Spa Day
Are you in serious need of some rest and relaxation? Grab your bath bombs, nail polish, body butter, and face masks for a DIY spa day. ‘Tis the perfect season to kick back, chillax, and love yourself.
4. Catch Up On Your Netflix Favorites
When you want to be totally cozy on the couch, Netflix is your best companion. Whether you’re in the mood to laugh out loud or stream a feel-good holiday flick, you’ll have plenty of time to catch up on all of your television and movie favorites.
5. Finish That Book
You may tell yourself you want to read more, and this is your chance. You can finally finish that book you started or purchase a new book to read. This is the best way to have a sweet little escape without stepping foot outside of your home. Cozy up on the couch, make yourself a mug of peppermint tea, and happy reading.
6. Finally Start That Project You’ve Been Putting Off
You might have a to-do list outside of your daily routine, but it can be easy for life to get in the way of planning those projects. Whether you want to start writing that book, create a blog, take an online photography class, or simply try to master a new TikTok, there is no better time to start than the present.
7. Try A New Holiday Recipe
You have all of the time in the world to prepare yourself a delicious holiday meal, so why not experiment? Pinterest is an amazing resource for so many drool-worthy recipes, such as Christmas tree spinach dip breadsticks, beef short ribs and gravy, bacon and garlic green beans, and sugar cookie truffles. So, hop on, get creative, and show off your skills in the kitchen.
