With two championship golf courses, a sculpture garden and a vineyard (don’t miss indulging in their very own Carden Park Estate Reserve sparkling wine over dinner) all on-site, there’s something for everyone on this impressive estate. It’s around 20 miles away from Crewe and even closer if you’re coming from Chester, meaning whether you’re travelling by road or rail, you can soon find yourself enjoying a rural escape at Carden Park.

If you arrive by EV, there are on-site ChargePoint electric chargers too.

After a relatively short taxi ride from Crewe train station, we weave our way along the grand driveway, grabbing a glimpse at the array of things to explore, before making our way to the hotel entrance.

We’re booked in for a garden experience at The Spa at Carden the following day, and after checking into our room for the night, we decide to make the most of the late summer sun and enjoy a stroll around the expansive grounds.

We window shop for sculptures in the art gardens, then take a tour of the vineyard, breathing in the fresh country air.

As well as two bars, a florist, a salon and a gift shop within the hotel, there’s a fitness suite boasting state-of-the-art gym equipment, a swimming pool plus a jacuzzi, sauna and a steam room.

Redmond’s Brasserie has a buzzing atmosphere when we arrive in the evening. Amid laughter and chatter, I look out towards The Nicklaus golf course as the sun glows orange and melts over the horizon.

I opt for the Buffalo mozzarella with tomato, basil pesto and rocket to start, followed by a filling plant-based burger. With excellent service and beautiful decor, it was the perfect setting for a relaxed evening catching up.

It’s not the only eatery at the hotel though – guests can visit The Vines restaurant from Thursday to Saturday, or for Sunday lunch.

The Spa at Carden: Spa day experience

I thought I knew relaxation until I arrived at The Spa at Carden – Carden Park’s award-winning development which opened up just before the pandemic.

Huge high ceilings create a light and airy arrival space, and a magnificent moss wall brings the outdoors in. There’s a seamless transition between nature and its facilities – something which doesn’t come as a surprise considering it’s one of the UK’s largest outdoor spa gardens.

First on our itinerary is an arrival reception of fresh coffee and pastries at Elements. This first-floor restaurant looks out onto the array of al fresco hot tubs (there are three state-of-the-art spa pools plus the vitality pool) and rolling Welsh hills beyond the grounds.

Immaculately cared-for greenery and thermal garden pods have been carefully placed throughout the outdoor space, which fuels a feeling of privacy and peace wherever you opt to relax.

The team deliberately take care to ensure each experience day isn’t oversubscribed, and it’s reserved for over 18’s too, so you can rest assured there’ll be plenty of space to soak up the serene atmosphere.

If you’re in need of even more bubbles after a dip in the hot tub, don’t miss the all-weather Bollinger Champagne garden bar. There’s plenty on offer for lunch in Elements too – from afternoon tea to sumptuous salads.

Having refuelled with the puy lentil salad, it was back to exploring the seemingly-endless all-weather spa facilities. Whatever the temperature, there’s plenty to enjoy – you can snuggle up in your gown on cooler days by the outdoor fire pit, warm up in the panoramic sauna or bask in the sunshine by the vitality pool.

In the indoor thermal suite, there’s a second vitality pool and heated relaxation beds, perfect for taking it easy after lunch. Here, you’ll find the experience showers, Finnish sauna, bio sauna, tepidarium, salt steam room and aroma steam room – as you can imagine, there’s absolutely something for everyone at this deluxe well-being sanctuary.

Whether it’s relaxation or rejuvenation you’re seeking, there’s a wealth of spa treatments available to try too. And, as you absorb all the benefits from the therapy, you can rest and revive in the dedicated Relaxation Rooms.

Seeking even more me-time? From manicures to brow shapes, book into the Bollinger Beauty Bar. Situated upstairs, this space has no shortage of stunning countryside views.
