Hidden in plain sight on the famous Strand in central London is the Strand Palace Hotel. The luxury hotel boasts a range of London landmarks on its doorstep including St. Paul’s Cathedral, Trafalgar Square and the London Eye.

The Strand Palace is easy to get to and I arrived after a quick five minute walk from Covent Garden tube station.

The residence has recently been renovated and boasts a unique Art Deco style which sets it apart from other hotels around the area.

Those visiting can choose from Deluxe or Superior rooms of different sizes with rates starting from £120.

We stayed in a King Deluxe room which was kitted out with a King size bed, comfortable seats, a Nespresso Machine and a large HD television.

There were The White Company toiletries in the bathroom and the room included white robes and slippers for added comfort.

In a welcome touch of luxury, there was a complimentary mini bar stocked full of wine, beer, soft drinks and snacks.

The room also had the convenient feature of blackout blinds which is perfect for sleeping in.

If looking for something to do, the hotel opens up into the heart of London.

Covent Garden is just a five minute walk away and has amenities such as shops, restaurants and markets to browse.

For some retail therapy, Oxford Street is also within walking distance and the hotel is placed near many West End theatres for when shows resume.

Haxells Restaurant and Bar

Breakfast is included in the price of the Deluxe rooms and it was served in the Haxell restaurant.

While booking was not necessary, the hotel had a traffic light system which showed the quietest and busiest times to visit.

The breakfast was served in a buffet style between 6am and 12pm meaning there was no rush to have breakfast.

It consisted of continental and hot options as well as coffee, tea and juices.

Due to coronavirus restrictions the food was picked from the buffet on our behalf and although it is something I have not seen before, colleagues were on hand to explain how it worked.

The restaurant also offers Afternoon tea, lunch and dinner dining which could be enjoyed by both hotel guests and walk-in visitors.

The dining room has recently been decorated with stunning artwork including lots of unique London memorabilia.

We visited Haxells for dinner where we enjoyed a three course meal from a classic menu which catered for a range of dietary requirements.

To start, we had the Goats Cheese Salad and the Heirloom Tomato & Burrata which were both clearly made with fresh ingredients.

My main was the Black Truffle Risotto which was topped off with parmesan cheese and bursting with flavour.

My partner tucked into the British Beef Burger which was served with cheese and came with generous helpings of onion rings and thick cut Cajun fries.

For dessert, we finished the meal with the Vanilla Crème Brûlée and British Cheese Platter & Quince.

Both portions were surprisingly large for dessert and were the perfect way to top off the meal. Restaurant staff were on hand to offer recommendations of what to try.

Away from the restaurant, hotel guests can also enjoy facilities such as a gym and a bar named the Gin Palace.

It’s central location and unique decor provided a great setting for exploring central London and the landmark sights nearby.

It is perfect for a fleeting city break, offering a generous check-out time of 12pm and ‘express checkout’ for those with no outstanding charges.

Rooms vary in price, depending on the size of room, length of stay and time of booking.
