Airlines continue to cancel flights as Hurricane Ian marches on: Travel Weekly

More than 2,000 U.S. flights have been canceled Thursday as some parts of Florida and Southeast continue to contend with Hurricane Ian.

Among the closed airports in Florida are Tampa, Fort Myers, Orlando, Orlando-Sanford, Jacksonville, Daytona Beach and St. Augustine.

Airlines have also issued waivers for travel to or from numerous airports in the Carolinas and Georgia as Ian heads in the direction of South Carolina, where it is forecast to make landfall again on Friday as a Category 1 hurricane.

According to FlightAware, 2,041 flights within, to or from the U.S. on Sept. 29 had been canceled as of 4:15 p.m. Eastern time.

Airlines with heavy concentrations of flights to Orlando and northeast Florida had the highest percentage of cancellations, including Breeze, Allegiant, Frontier, Spirit and JetBlue.
