American Airlines details executive changes under incoming CEO
American Airlines on Tuesday detailed the senior leadership team that will report to incoming CEO Robert Isom when he assumes his new role on March 31.
Isom, whom American announced last week as retiring CEO Doug Parker’s successor, shared the news in a letter to employees.
The airline said that after Isom assumes the CEO role, no executive will hold the title of president.
Joining the senior leadership team is Vasu Raja as executive vice president and chief commercial officer.
American’s former head of revenue, Raja will oversee American’s global network, airline alliances and partnerships, revenue management, sales and marketing, and American’s loyalty program. His role also will support the customer organization led by Alison Taylor.

Current CFO Derek Kerr will add the designation of vice chair, overseeing all corporate financial functions, global corporate risk and corporate development. He will continue as president of American Eagle operations, the regional network for about half of American’s departures.
Executive vice president Steve Johnson, who headed up corporate affairs, will take on a new strategic advisory role focused on strategy development, economics and competition issues, corporate development, corporate governance, and environmental and social responsibilities.
Maya Leibman will continue to serve as executive vice president and chief information officer, leading all technology efforts for the airline.
David Seymour will add senior vice president to his title of chief operating officer. General counsel Priya Aiyar will become senior vice president of corporate affairs and chief legal officer.
Cole Brown, who joined American in June, will continue as senior vice president and chief people officer. Ron DeFeo will continue to lead the carrier’s global engagement team as senior vice president and chief communications officer.
Nate Gatten will continue as senior vice president of corporate affairs and chief government affairs officer and will assume oversight of the airline’s properties and corporate real estate portfolios.
Further, executive vice president of people and global engagement Elise Eberwein announced her retirement, effective June 30, after 35 years in the airline industry. Her responsibilities will transition to Brown and DeFeo.
