Frontier Airlines adding flights from Chicago Midway, Houston Hobby

Frontier Airlines will begin service out of Chicago Midway and Houston Hobby airports this spring, putting it in competition with Southwest at two of the carrier’s largest stations.

Frontier will commence eight Midway routes on either April 28 or 29, including daily service to Atlanta; Dallas-Fort Worth; Las Vegas; Denver; Phoenix; Ontario, Calif.; and Tampa as well as four-times-weekly service to Trenton, N.J.

On Oct. 13, Frontier will begin serving Fort Lauderdale and Orlando from Midway.

Southwest is currently the lone carrier on seven of those routes, in most cases operating them several times per day, Cirium flight schedule data shows. Delta also flies Midway-Atlanta, offering three-times-daily service. No carrier is currently flying between Midway and Dallas-Fort Worth or Midway and Trenton.

At Hobby Airport, Frontier will launch thrice-weekly service to Cancun on May 26, followed by four-times-weekly service to Orlando and Las Vegas the following day, taking on Southwest in three popular leisure markets.

Southwest is presently the only carrier on each of those airport pairs, Cirium flight schedule data shows, offering three flights per day from Hobby to Cancun and Las Vegas this month and five flights per day to Orlando.

Frontier already serves Houston and Midway from Bush Intercontinental and O’Hare airports.
