Frontier Airlines expanding to No. 1 in Puerto Rico
Frontier Airlines will add eight routes to Puerto Rico in May, including six routes to San Juan and its first flight to the southern city of Ponce.
The additions will bring Frontier to 19 routes from Puerto Rico, Cirium flight schedule data shows, besting JetBlue for the most of any airline.
On May 4, Frontier will launch four routes to San Juan, including daily service from Dallas-Fort Worth and Baltimore, six-times-weekly service from Chicago Midway and four-times weekly service from Cleveland. On May 5, the carrier will add four-times-weekly service from Detroit. Then on May 25, Frontier will launch three-times-weekly San Juan-Cancun service.
Frontier will compete against Spirit and Southwest on Baltimore-San Juan, against Southwest on Midway-San Juan and against American on Dallas-Fort Worth to San Juan. Frontier will be the lone carrier in its other new San Juan markets.
Frontier’s first service to Ponce will be three-times weekly from Orlando beginning May 4.

The carrier will also launch thrice-weekly service on May 4 between Tampa and the northwestern Puerto Rican destination of Aguadilla. Tampa will be the discount carrier’s second gateway to Aguadilla, joining Orlando.
Frontier will be the only carrier flying Orlando-Ponce and Tampa-Aguadilla, according to Cirium data.
Frontier releases summer-only GoWild! Pass
Frontier announced the new Puerto Rico routes in conjunction with the release of a summer-only version of its GoWild! Pass subscription service. The all-you-can-fly pass will be good from May 2 to Sept. 30 and cost $399.
Passholders have access to unlimited flights but with substantial restrictions. Domestic flights must be booked the day before for departure for both outbound and return flights. International flights, both outbound and return, can be booked up to 10 days before departure.
The pass also has blackout dates covering peak flying dates, including the Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day holiday periods.
Passholders pay a token fare of one penny when they book, but they also must pay applicable taxes, fees and charges. In addition, they must pay for ancillary products such as checked and carry-on bags and seat assignments. They also cannot earn miles on their flying. The GoWild! Pass is nontransferable. The pass will automatically renew for Summer 2024 unless the buyer cancels.
