Japan Airlines will entice travelers to pack light with clothing-rental trial
Japan Airlines (JAL) will test a clothing-rental program next summer.
The Any Wear, Anywhere program will be geared toward overseas visitors to Japan and is being touted by the carrier for its potential to reduce baggage.
JAL will test Any Wear, Anywhere between July 5 and Aug. 31 of next year. Customers will be able to select clothing at the program’s website. Reservations should be made a month in advance, the carrier said. Clothing will then be delivered to the customer’s hotel in Japan on their arrival date.
JAL said the initiative is part of its sustainability efforts. During the trial, the carrier will monitor check-in baggage weights on flights and verify whether anticipated emissions reductions are realized.
JAL will utilize used clothing and excess clothing stock for the program, procuring it from Japan-based WeFabrik, which has set as its mission the reduction of clothing waste via reuse.
