Qatar Airways again wins Skytrax's airline of the year: Travel Weekly

Qatar Airways is once again the world’s best airline, according to Skytrax, which published its annual airline rankings on Friday.

Singapore Airlines, Emirates, All Nippon Airways and Qantas rounded out the top five.

Delta was the top-rated U.S. carrier, but came in a relatively middling 24th place. Among the other U.S. carriers that finished in the top 100, Southwest was 35th, JetBlue 41st, Alaska 59th, United 60th and American 68th.  Southwest also was ranked the third-best low-cost airline.

The Skytrax World Airlines Awards are regarded as among the most credible in the airline industry. Winners this year were determined by an online survey that was open from September 2021 to August 2022 in six languages, Skytrax said. More than 300 airlines are in the survey results and responses came from people of more than 100 nationalities.

This is the seventh time Qatar Airways has taken the top global honor. The airline won in 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021 and now 2022.

“To be named as the world’s best airline was always a goal when Qatar Airways was created, but to win it for the seventh time and pick up three additional awards is a testament to all the hard work of our incredible employees,” Qatar CEO Akbar Al Baker said in a statement.

Qatar also topped all other airlines for its business class, business class lounge dining and for being the Middle East’s top airline.
