Southwest launches summer fare sale: Travel Weekly
Airfares this summer are sky high. But for travelers who plan to wait for the off-peak travel days of late summer and fall, Southwest Airlines is offering a 40%-off sale.
The fare applies to travel between Aug. 16 and Nov. 5. Travelers, however, must act fast. Discounts are only offered through 11:59 p.m. Central Time on Thursday. To take advantage of the sale, flyers must enter the discount code FALL40 while booking on Southwest.com.

“This discount on Southwest flights will help make travel more affordable and easier for customers — giving them a great low fare along with two free checked bags, and no change or cancellation fees,” Bill Tierney, Southwest’s vice president of marketing and digital experience, said in a prepared statement.
The fare applies to tickets on all of Southwest’s fare products: Wanna Get Away, Wanna Get Away Plus, Anytime and Business Select. However, the carrier noted that the discount “won’t be available on some flights that operate during very busy travel times and holiday periods.”
Budget domestic airfares are up 34% this summer compared to 2019, according to the booking app Hopper. Heavy demand, high fuel prices and a shortage of pilots and other staffers that is limiting airline capacity are all contributing to the expensive fares.
