Alton Towers re-opening on April 12 with three new 1980s themed retro rides
Theme park Alton Towers has announced three new rides will be opening – and 1980s kids will love the throwback vibes.
The retro pop-ups will be at the park for the 2021 season when it re-opens and is hoping to channel the electro-pop era.
Alton Towers will re-open on April 12 for the summer.
On Instagram, the park said: "Get set to celebrate! We are really excited to share with you our thrilliant celebration plans for 2021!
"As we prepare to re-open from 12th April, we will be rolling out our fantabulous programme of festivities to celebrate unforgettable adventures, spending time with friends and family, and making memories together at Britain’s greatest escape."
Alongside the announcement, Alton Towers has released a new 1980s style animated clip – showing a call out for new rides when the park first opened – to reveal the new attractions.
It also features the famous theme tune, Hall of the Mountain King, in a never before heard style, reports StokeonTrentLive.
The new rides Mixtape, Roller Disco and Funk’n’Fly will now be known as the “Retro Squad”.
And, they’ll be spaced around the park for visitors to find.
Francis Jackson, general manager at Alton Towers, said: “We are committed to creating fun and thrills for families and thrill-seekers and the new retro experiences are different to anything we offer on the theme park."
It continued: "We have introduced a series of new outdoor attractions which are included in the price of a theme park ticket offering guests a nostalgic spin-back to the 80s, which provides an exciting addition which we’re sure our guests will love.
“We are delighted to announce that the new outdoor attractions will be available from when we open on April 12.
"Safety is our number one priority and as well as number of robust health and hygiene measures, we will continue to operate on a reduced capacity when we open, therefore we have strategically placed the new rides around the theme park to help us ensure guests are dispersed and social distancing can be maintained.”
Over on Instagram, fans were thrilled at the new announcement.
