Alton Towers shares sneak peek of new Gangsta Granny ride ahead of 2021 launch
Alton Towers has given thrill-seekers a sneak peek of its latest ride.
After being pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic, Gangsta Granny: The Ride is set to open later this year.
The attraction is inspired by children’s author David Walliams.
Footage released today shows John Burton, creative lead at Merlin, looking inside the ride during its build and showing what fans of the book can expect as they join the main characters in a bid to steal the Crown Jewels.
The tour looks at the special effects and cutting-edge animation that will provide a thrilling experience to the young guests.
In the re-telling of the popular book, it will feature 3D projection mapping, animation inspired by Tony Ross art and state-of-the-art special effects.
According to StokeonTrent Live, Burton says the ride is one of the most complex they’ve ever worked on.
He explained: "This is the biggest challenge we have ever had in this scene as it incorporate so many different elements, more than we have ever incorporated in one scene of one attraction ever before.
"And I am really excited to see how this one turns out."
The new ride will be situated in Alton Towers’ “World of David Walliams”.
In this themed area, tourists will also get to see Raj’s Shop, Royal Carousel and Raj’s Bouncy Bottom Burp.
It’s a decade since Gangsta Granny was released – and it’s gone on to become a best-seller.
When the book first hit the stands, David could have never imagined it would be turned into a theme park ride.
The comedian said: "I have been working really closely with the team at Alton Towers and what I really wanted was for the ride to be truthful to the book.
"I am thrilled there is going to be a Gangsta Granny ride at Alton Towers.
“I never thought that would happen."
