‘Best beach’ in London has ‘outstanding beauty’, golden sand and nature walks
There are dozens of gorgeous beaches in the UK – from havens in Cornwall with waterfalls to Welsh bays where dolphins play. But, it turns out there’s also a beach of "outstanding beauty" you can reach on the London tube?
A travel creator took to TikTok to share her top spots within spitting distance of the English capital. We’re gobsmacked that her favourite choice can be accessed on the Piccadilly line with a short walk.
The poster, @thecuriouspixie, said the beach was one with "outstanding natural beauty". It sure looks like a fun day out with golden sand and a pirate ship climbing frame for kids.

To get there you just need to get the Piccadilly line to Ruislip. Then there’s either a 20 minute walk or you can catch the H13 bus to Ruislip Lido.
But, what does a beach on the edge of London have to offer? The lido itself is a 60-acre manmade lake with a railway around it surrounded by the trees of Ruislip woods.
There’s a car park nearby for those who want to drive and toilets open from 10am to 6pm. Families are welcome to sunbathe, make sand castles and enjoy the beach.
Plus, other than from March 15 to June 15 each year fishing is allowed at the beach. If you fish between these dates though you do face a fine.
There’s also a woodlands centre at the lido beach which can introduce you to plenty of activities like nature walks in the woods and craft sessions. It’s like the perfect combination of country and coast!
However, there is one major downside to this London beach that influencers may not warn you about. Swimming is not permitted.
On the Hillingdon Council website, it states that this is due to "underwater objects and hazards", the "unpredictable" depth of the water, the possibility of "swimmer’s itch" due to parasites in the water and the "shock of cold water" making it tricky to get out of the water. Not quite the beach experience you’d get elsewhere.
So, the easily accessible beach may be great for those who want to enjoy nature or sunbathe. But, if you’re looking to go wild swimming or paddle boarding you may have to head elsewhere.
Luckily, if you’re willing to board a train, those in the capital can reach the gorgeous beach town of Whistable in one hour and 22 minutes from London King’s Cross.
This quaint beach town is a favourite haunt of star Mia Khalifa – so you might spot her wandering down the high street. The former adult star and media personality claims the Kent town is "better than Miami".
There’s plenty to do from eating cheap seafood at the harbour to strolling down the beach to spot the "road to nowhere" geological feature. Alternatively, enjoy some watersports like kayaking and snorkelling.
