Breckenridge Ski Resort opens early in 2022 after fresh snow
Thanks to 14 inches of natural snowfall over the weekend and cold temperatures that revved up snowmaking operations, Breckenridge Ski Resort will open on Wednesday, two days earlier than planned when tentative schedules were announced last summer.
More than 50 acres of terrain will be open on Peak 8, served by the Colorado SuperChair and 5-Chair. Learning terrain and carpets will be open in the Rip’s Ride learning area. Hours of operation will be 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We are thrilled to kick off the winter season early this year thanks to cold temperatures and great progress on snowmaking at the resort,” said Jody Churich, Breckenridge vice president and chief operating officer, in a news release. “While Mother Nature has provided the temps, I want to give a huge shoutout to all of our resort employees for making this possible. We can’t wait to welcome back our Breck community to the mountain for the 2022-23 winter season.”
A snowcat that transforms into a DJ booth, known as Rockstar DJ Cat, will be pumping out tunes with DJDC at the controls before the first chair loads. Fresh waffles will be served.
Five ski areas have already opened: Arapahoe Basin, Keystone, Winter Park, Loveland and Wolf Creek. Vail is scheduled to open on Friday.
