Brit fuming at ‘eye-watering’ £310 bill for light lunch in Greek restaurant
When going on holiday there’s nothing worse than feeling like you’ve been taken advantage of. One British family claims they were scammed by a restaurant and had to pay £310 for a small lunch.
The couple and their children enjoyed a beer, cocktail, some milkshakes and a plate of calamari for the high cost. They were furious at the high price after their holiday to the Greek island of Mykonos took a terrible turn.
Discussing the issue on Reddit, they claimed they were ripped off at at Eclipse on Platis Gialos beach in Mykonos. The parent shared a snap of their receipt too.

It clearly stated that they had spent €360 (£309) on one beer, one mojito, two milkshakes, one Greek salad, bread and one portion of calamari. The plate of squid alone cost £64.
They commented: "This is to help everyone and not get the feeling of being cheated. We were walking to find a spot in front of the beach a Platis Gialos and there are many restaurants with beach furniture in front of the beaches.
"As we were walking waiter at Eclipse told us we could use their cabanas or loungers provided we bought two drinks. We thought it wasn’t a bad deal and went with it.
"As we got settled in, he kept on pestering us to order to which my wife got a mojito while I got a beer. I kept on asking for a price and he cleverly avoided the question by saying he needs to get the drinks menu but it is cheap so please order. In the process he forced us to order milkshakes for our kids.
"As we’re sitting there for about an hour, we thought we might as well order some food which he recommended some calamari and on the menu it said €19. He said it comes with a side salad and bread which I again asked is it a separate charge which he said 'No'.
"In the end he handed me a paper with two lines which I asked clarification he said was food and drinks. I was already shocked at seeing 75 for the Calamari and 78 for the drinks but to get it over with he kept on pestering for payment and I gave my credit card."
They continued: "When the bill came back I was appalled as the Calamari was €148, the milkshakes which we never wanted but were forced to order for our kids were €38 each and the salad and bread which we were told were free were €28 and 14.50 respectively.
"I got upset and told the waiter and cashier that this was incorrect and they started grouping up and getting mad. The cashier took the receipt and chopped off the top part which had their name, address and date of transaction details. They didn’t bother for a signature after the transaction and simply charged my card a whopping €360.80.
"I felt so cheated and wouldn’t ever want anyone to feel this way. All the other restaurants and ppl in Mykonos have been really nice but Eclipse is one place where I’d clearly avoid."
It’s not the first time someone has felt scammed in the area. Unwitting tourists have been warned about dining at a specific Greek restaurant by Tripadvisor who say to be careful if you plan to dine at the venue.
The website added a "safety warning" to its page for Mykonos eatery DK Oyster following a mass of fuming complaints over pricing. One woman was gobsmacked to be charged a whopping £50 for a glass of "undrinkable" lemonade – though the restaurant hit back.
Another couple Jessica Yarnall, 31, and Adam Hagaun, 30, claim they were hit with a staggering 800 euro bill ( approximately £710 ) for two drinks, four crab legs and a salad at a notorious Greek restaurant. And a third couple say they were charged £333 for a "quick snack" on their honeymoon.
