According to the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce, over 46,000 British people live in Portugal. Many opt to live in the stunning Algarve region.
The Algarve is renowned for its expansive Atlantic coast beaches and world class golf courses.
Extremely popular with British tourists, the Algarve is buzzing for the majority of the summer season.
While there are many charming towns and villages for expats to choose from in the Algarve, one resort town is catching the attention of Portuguese and international buyers.
According to the property experts at Idealista, Uptown, Central and Quintinhas, real estate projects in beautiful Vilamoura are attracting a lot of attention.
The new Vilamoura World real estate projects appealed to buyers from all over the world including Britons.
British buyers were responsible for 17 percent of purchases while the properties were also popular with people from the USA, Brazil and Japan.
Vilamoura is commonly known as one of the most refined towns of the popular tourist Algarve region.
Modern and upmarket, the sophisticated destination was built in the 1980s as an elite golfing centre.
Life in Vilamoura is centered around the marina where many millionaires choose to dock their yachts.
Marina de Vilamoura is the largest in the Algarve with space for 1,300 boats and many restaurants and bars.
One Tripadvisor user said: “Plenty to see and do here and a cracking sunset as well. Plenty of people or boat watching bars.”
Many residents choose to eat at one of the Marina’s many seafood restaurants and tourists are advised to book ahead.
Vilamoura also has fantastic world cuisine options with two Indian restaurants coming top on TripAdvisor.
Expats who opt to settle on the Algarve will be spoilt for choice when it comes to stunning beaches.
Praia de Vilamoura is the most convenient of Vilamoura’s beaches, located right next to the atmospheric Marina.
One tourist said: “Beautiful place with beautiful people and gorgeous scenery.”
Another added: “Is this the best in Europe? Long beautiful sand, clean and fabulous. You can walk for miles. Answer yes it is.”
Although it’s a world class destination for golf, expats in Vilamoura also have many other leisure activities to enjoy.
From tennis schools to coastal horse rides, it’s easy for Britons in Vilamoura to stay fit and healthy.
Many expats in Vilamoura live in townhouse style villas, some with private swimming pools and vast grounds.
