It is estimated that there are just over 8,000 British expats living in Tenerife. One of the most popular islands in the Canaries, Tenerife has a lot to offer.
From beaches and hiking to a nightlife strip, it’s not hard to see why so many Britons choose to settle in Tenerife.
Unsurprisingly, property in Tenerife is more expensive than in other areas of Spain such as inland regions like Toledo.
However, that doesn’t mean British expats can’t find a bargain in some areas of the attractive island.
Data from property experts, idealista, found that La Guancha offered the lowest average house prices in Tenerife.
Property in La Guancha cost an average of 786 euros per square metre and was the cheapest in Tenerife.
La Guancha in northern Tenerife stretches from Mount Teide to the sea and has many small shops.
The town’s name was inspired by a legend. It is said that a group of Spanish soldiers stumbled across a beautiful local woman collecting water during the Spanish Conquest.
They set out to capture her but the woman chose to jump into the ravine rather than be taken by the men.
La Guancha means the Guanche Woman and the town is named in her honour. She is also represented in its coat of arms.
La Guancha properties currently listed on idealista include a three bed detached house with sea views.
The house has parking spaces and a garden and is priced at 333,000 euros (£275,271).
Britons who are willing to take on a renovation project could snap up a huge bargain in La Guancha.
A five bedroom terraced house which requires a lot of renovations is listed for just 80,000 euros (£66,716).
An incredible six bedroom farmhouse is one of the more expensive options, priced at 1.2 million euros (£1million).
However, the lucky new owners will also gain a riding school, stables, sauna and a huge private lake.
As a volcanic island, Tenerife has many interesting land features to discover. Expats in La Guancha will have easy access to Charco de la Laja.
The beautiful natural swimming pool was created by ancient volcanic eruptions and is popular with both locals and tourists.
One visitor said on Tripadvisor: “The water is still, quite warm and crystal clear. It’s a fantastic place to swim.”
Climbing to the top of the El Topete lookout point will reward British expats with incredible views of Mount Teide.
Families will enjoy exploring the surrounding forests and can picnic at the El Pinalete scenic spot.
With regular flights from major UK airports to Tenerife, expats will find it easy to visit family in Britain.
