British tourists ditch Magaluf due to drink laws
British tourists are ditching Magaluf in favour of other resort areas in Majorca, according to local businesspeople.
Local media reports state that hundreds of tourists are leaving the Spanish resort during the day to party.
Although many Britons are still staying in the once-infamous resort at night, laws on drinking and party boats have pushed them to explore other areas during the day.
Hotels in Santa Ponsa, another coastal resort area, have started organising pool parties that are banned in Magaluf.
Some tourists are choosing to take party boats from Palma, after booze cruises were also banned in Magaluf.

Local businesspeople have reportedly said the situation is “unfair” as the tourists are spending money elsewhere.
Many just return to their hotel room in Magaluf to sleep and spend most of the day resting there.
Some of Magaluf’s bars and restaurants have been forced to reduce their staff as the season is quieter than normal.

Magaluf is now subject to drinking laws which were designed to tackle hedonistic behaviour in the resort.
Party boats are banned and tourists staying at all-inclusive hotels are restricted to a six drink limit.
Although some other areas of Majorca do fall under the laws, this isn’t the case on the whole of the island.
