Seaside holidays are a British summertime favourite, and with so much stunning coastline to enjoy there are all manner of beach hotspots to enjoy. Yet, one seaside favourite is said to be the place to go if you are looking for a low-cost family holiday.

In Channel 5’s documentary Bargain Loving Brits by the Sea, airing this evening at 8pm, a selection of families explained why they were drawn to Blackpool year after year.

According to the documentary it is traditions such as donkey rides on the beach or pitching a deckchair to watch the tide roll in that “keeps bringing bargain loving Britons back to the seaside every year.”

The programme says Blackpool, in particular, “pulls in more of us than any other”.

One family said: “We love Blackpool”.

Another mother, on holiday with her young daughter, said: “It’s cheap and cheerful”.

“It is just the same price every year,” agreed a couple who frequent the northern resort.

Value for money is a key draw for families looking to entertain their children while relaxing and taking in the views.

“You know what you’re getting, you know that is is value for money,” said another mother on holiday with her son.

In fact, one parent said she was able to treat all of her kids to a joyful day out without breaking the bank.

“I can come to Blackpool with the children all day and spend £15,” she told the documentary.

Alongside enjoying the sunshine on the beach, there are plenty of other ways to fill a day on the Lancashire coast.

From dining out on a budget to enjoying a drink, the famous Golden Mile is scattered with a huge selection of bars and restaurants

There is also plenty of entertainment, including “the resort’s most famous cabaret bar” Funny Girls which has been dazzling crowds with performances for “a quarter of a century”.

Thrill-seekers can spend their days riding the rollercoasters of the resort’s “iconic” theme park, Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Alternatively, those after a taste of adventure can become one with the sea, by taking up a surfing lesson.

The seaside town is also known for its sparkling Blackpool Illuminations, which light up the main road’s of the area as night falls.

This is complete with the iconic Blackpool Tower, which is a much-loved feature of the resort’s skyline.

When it comes to accommodation, there are also plenty of options for families, couples and groups of friends looking to getaway.

The seaside town is home to an array of B&Bs, hotels and caravan parks.

According to Direct Line, as of 2018, there were approximately 900 B&Bs in the town alone.

Approximately four million tourists flock to Blackpool each year, particularly when the illuminations are lit.

Blackpoolilluminations.info states this hoard of visitors spend over £284 on their annual jaunt.
