Flights see a great many passengers board a plane. Unfortunately, not all of them have high standards when it comes to hygiene. Cabin crew have shared some disgusting truths about what goes on in planes.

The flight attendants posted their insight on US content-sharing platform Reddit.

More than one pointed out how dirty plane tray tables really are.

This is due partly to the unpleasant activities some fliers do on the tables.

It’s also partly due to poor cleaning.

Therefore the insiders urged passengers to avoid putting anything they’re going to eat on the tables.

“The tray tables are gross,” one cabin crew member said.

“Can’t even remember how many times I’ve seen babies changed on them, people puke on them, people bleed on them . . .

“They’re supposed to be cleaned nightly, but I wouldn’t put food directly on them. Nope nope nope!”

To help combat the problem, a flight attendant recommended taking the matter into your own hands.

It is wise to travel with antibacterial wipes and clean down the tables before use.

“If you’re flying short-haul, definitely bring antibac wipes or sanitiser,” one cabin crew wrote.

“A lot of airlines will have the crew ‘turnaround’ the plane meaning they pick up your rubbish, fold your seatbelt over, file your magazines in the seat pocket and then welcome new passengers on board.

“I have lost count of the number of times I have had to tell people how disgusting it is to change their baby on the tray table or in a seat.”

It’s not just the tray tables you might want to be wary about.

Another flight attendant revealed how dirty the seat pockets on planes are.

They advised against ever using them.

“I ALWAYS recommend you never, ever, ever, EVER use or put anything in the seat pocket,” they wrote.

“They are cleared of rubbish but are never ‘cleaned’. I have pulled out and seen all sorts been pulled out from there.

“Dirty tissues, sick bags, knickers, socks, peoples feet, gum, half sucked sweets, apple cores… and then next flight you go and put your phone/laptop/iPad in there.”
