Paul Merton and Suki Webster were in the Peak District in the latest episode of Motorhoming with Merton & Webster. Channel 5 viewers tuned in to see them on the next leg of their UK staycation adventure in their trusty motorhome and fans were given some useful van life tips. For anyone who doesn’t have a shower, or is struggling to keep the flame alight when boiling their kettle because of the wind, they shared some handy hacks.
The first morning found Paul and Suki in a campsite north of Bakewell.
Later, they swapped four wheels for two after hiring bikes on the nearby Monsal Trail, a dissed former railway line.
They then dropped by a local campsite and set up for the evening.
But noticed a few of their neighbours had unusual accommodation.
When they got chatting they started swapping camping and van hacks with one another.
One lady explained: “We didn’t have a shower in the van but we do have a tap.
“So, it was really simple to just get a bit of hosing and attach a shower head to it.
“We attach it to our tap in the kitchen and feed the shower out of the window.”
Her husband added: “We feed it round the back here, slot it in that little hole and that’s my perfect height.”
The water was then turned on and the shower functioned perfectly: “Check it out!”
Another camper said: “I’ve got a camping hack for you.
“My barbecue has three windbreaks on it but we put up this big windbreak at the front – that blocks most of the wind so your flame doesn’t go out when you’re boiling the kettle.
“But we sometimes find it [the wind] comes from behind us.
“What I like to do is put a bit of kitchen foil over the front,” and he demonstrated how to do it.
“Now I know I can just boil my kettle or cook some bacon without worrying about the flame getting blown out.”
The next stop on Paul and Suki’s journey was to leave Hope Valley and head north to Derwent Dam.
From there they would visit the Falconry Centre.
Next week, Paul and Suki visit Norfolk for the final leg of their UK tour.
Their first stop-off is Great Yarmouth’s quieter neighbour, Gorleston-on-Sea.
