Centre Parcs came under fire last week for telling visitors they would have to leave for 24 hours while the Queen’s funeral was taking place. The adventure company soon u-turned on their decision but told guests all of their facilities would be closed while the events took place in London and Windsor, and were broadcasted on television. Now, Centre Parcs guests have been thanked for “helping created the unique opportunity” for their staff to have a day off to watch the funeral.
A letter was sent to those guests staying at Sherwood Forest explaining the logistics for the day.
David Tomlinson received the letter and posted a photograph of it on Twitter.
He added: “1/thank you for the letter delivered to our lodge this morning.
“I assume the thank you for ‘helping us create the unique opportunity’ is meant to be sarcasm because if not for the media backlash you’d be still be expecting us to vacate the park for one day.
“2/ I still note that like in the original e-mails and social media posts you still haven’t said sorry. After the stress you put so many of your customers through, is that really so much to ask?”
Dated September 18, the letter read: “We hope you’re enjoying your break. You’ll already be aware that our village will close from 10am Monday 19 September until Tuesday morning 20 September.
“As you’re with us for a longer duration, you’re welcome to stay on village during the closure period.
“Parc Market will open 8am until 10am on Monday morning so that you can grab any supplies you may need to get you through the day.
“You’re welcome to walk or cycle around the village or leave the village to explore the local area should you wish to do so.
“Our restaurants will remain closed, but you can arrange food delivery from the local area, and we’ll escort any deliveries to your lodge.
“Our Security Team are around should you need any support on Monday, please contact them on 01623 827400. For emergencies, please call 01623 827517.
“Thank you again for helping us create the unique opportunity for our team to be part of this historic event.”
Initially, guests who were part-way through their seven-day holiday – which usually cost more than £1,000 for a family of four at this time of year – faced the prospect of being forced to spend the night elsewhere or go home early.
Those due to arrive today for shorter stays were asked to begin their breaks a day later.
But, Centre Parcs soon u-turned on their decision following angry customers voicing their thoughts.
Center Parcs said it had “reviewed our position regarding the very small number of guests who are not due to depart on Monday and we will be allowing them to stay in our villages rather than having to leave and return on Tuesday”.
They then told guests on Twitter that they would be allowed to stay on its parks but must “remain in their lodges” for the day.
Further criticism was received and then the company later clarified that visitors would be allowed to leave the accommodation, but facilities, including pools, restaurants, and leisure activities, will be closed.
