Cheap flights to ‘green list’ destinations as holidays for Brits resume May 17

It's official, Brits can finally head overseas from May 17 after the government announced international travel can resume.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps revealed international travel can begin to safely open in a couple of weeks.

He outlined stricter border control measures with a "green, amber and red" list to determine the restrictions in each location.

Green means people will not need to quarantine on return to England, while people mustn't travel to amber and red places leisurely.

There are 12 countries and territories on the "green list".

The places are Portugal including Azores & Madeira, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Brunei, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Gibraltar, Falkland Islands and Israel.

Here we look at some of the cheapest flights for these locations.

Portugal

Ryanair has released its sizzling summer savers which include flights to a number of locations.

If you want to head to Portugal, there are flights to Faro from £14.99 one-way from Aberdeen.

Heading from Manchester? You can book a one-way ticket to Porto for just £19.99.

Alternatively the prices are £5 cheaper if you're booking the same location from Liverpool.

There are also flights available to Lisbon for less than £23.

Israel

Fancy a trip to Western Asia? You can fly out to Israel which is on the UK's "green list".

Brits can find cheap flights from London Luton Airport to Tel Aviv, costing no more than £200 for a return ticket with easyJet.

Alternatively if you're flying out from Manchester you're looking at return flights for £400 to the Israeli city.

Iceland

If you want a colder holiday this summer, Iceland is your best bet (and it's on the green list too).

We found one-way flights from British Airways to Reykjavik for under £100 if you want to travel in June.

It's easy to travel to the Blue Lagoon from the capital which is perfect if you'd like to relax and unwind in the geothermal spa.

Singapore

British Airways is offering reasonably priced flights to Singapore with a single ticket costing £281 for economy.

  • Italy to welcome back Brit tourists for holidays with no quarantine from May 16

Prices do vary depending on what time of the year you book but you're looking at under £300 for August time.

But if you want to fly out ASAP, a single ticket could cost you just over £300 for June travel.

The "green list" will be reviewed every three weeks and it's important to check travel restrictions to where you're flying to.

For example, Australia's borders are still closed and there have been reports they will not open until later in 2022.
