In its latest announcement, the Government announced fully vaccinated holidaymakers will no longer need to take travel tests. From February 11, Covid travel tests will be a thing of the past when entering the UK.

Holidaymakers may still face travel restrictions overseas and are advised to keep an eye on their destination’s requirements.

Travel testing has been a point of contention throughout the pandemic.

The travel industry called for tests to be scrapped every time travel rules were relaxed.

Testing companies were labelled “cowboys” by a BBC News viewer.

And The Big Travel Podcast’s host, Lisa Francesca Nand, called the travel testing requirements and the testing companies “scam” and “a money-making exercise”.

Covid testing companies are not “regulated by the Government”, she continued.

However, they are listed on the Government website, making some holidaymakers think the Government is endorsing some companies.

One test supplier, Dante Labs, has now been ordered to pay refunds to some of its customers.

Customers who tried to cancel PCR tests or whose tests arrived late will be entitled to a refund.

The order came after an investigation by the UK competition watchdog.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) ordered all outstanding refunds to be paid within 21 days.

Thousands of refunds are understood to already have been made.

Dante Labs was also reported by Hull Live to have “pledged to improve a number of its practices and get cash back to clients who tried to cancel kits or if results arrived too late”.

They “will also strengthen the protections for customers in its terms and conditions, improve customer service and provide clearer product information”, it was said.

The CMA investigation was launched last year after concerns were raised about Dante Labs’ possible breach of consumer law.

Claims included failure to deliver tests or results on time or at all.

The lab was also accused of not responding to complaints or providing adequate customer service.

The company was also investigated for supposedly refusing or delaying refunds when requested.

They were also accused of using terms and conditions that limited consumers’ rights.

Andrea Coscelli, chief executive at the CMA, said: “No PCR testing firm is exempt from the rules and our action to secure these refunds and other changes shows that we will not tolerate poor business practices.

“While travel rules to the UK may have changed, those people who still require PCR tests to travel abroad shouldn’t have to waste money on late results or tests that don’t arrive.

“It is crucial that all PCR providers treat people fairly, being clear on price and timings and providing refunds where they are due.”

The CMA sent letters to 25 PCR test providers as part of its work to protect consumers buying PCR tests.
