EasyJet is hiring cabin crew with strict requirements that you’ll need to meet

Many of us have dreamed of working a job that’s outside of an office and takes you to exotic locations – in fact, we even tried a day of training to find out what it takes.

Now, Brits looking to join the cabin crew can apply to be a flight attendant with easyJet – but they’ll need to meet some strict requirements to bag the training. Advertising a swathe of new jobs on Facebook, the budget airline said it was looking for cabin crew around various UK bases.

If you live near to, or are willing to be based near, London Gatwick, London Luton, Bristol, Manchester, Belfast or Amsterdam then the job could be for you. But, you’ll need to meet certain requirements such as a minimum height and size regulations.

The 2024 Gatwick advert outlines the requirements of the role – and while you won’t need any flying experience you do need customer service skills. Plus, anyone under 5ft 2in is out of the running.

Legal and safety requirements demand that you must be:

  • Aged 18 or over
  • 5'2" (157.5 cm) to 6'3" (190cm) in height without shoes
  • Able to pass a UK CAA Cabin Crew medical
  • Able to swim 25 metres unaided without stopping or touching the bottom or side of the pool, tread water and inflate a life jacket. Additionally, you will need to climb into a survival raft from the water
  • Have the continuing ability to fit into an aircraft jump seat which consists of a shoulder harness and lap belt

But, easyJet has some other requests too. You’ll need three months of previous customer service work plus fluency in written and verbal English. If based in the UK you’ll need a right to work here and a passport.

You need to live within a 90 minute commute of your base airport. You’ll also need to be able to sell, handle and dispose of alcohol and alcoholic products as these form part of your commission payments.

The advertisement also stated: "Tattoos are allowed, but there should be no visible tattoos on the head, face, or neck. Any tattoos that are considered offensive or inappropriate must be discreetly covered. Similarly, piercings that cannot be covered discreetly are not permitted."

In return for your work, the job ad states that your pay will be £22,000 which increases to £24,000 after six months. But, you can earn a "generous commission" on top of this.

Successful applicants can also get First Class training, staff travel benefits and an "attractive annual leave allowance". Generally, all of the easyJet flight attendant job adverts ask for the same requirements to be met.

They also state: "It’s being the friendly face that keeps everyone safe, secure, and informed while they’re with us. It’s knowing no one day will ever be the same as the next.

"It’s sharing the ‘orange spirit’, being positive, inclusive and ready to take on a challenge. Cabin Crew have one of the most important jobs in easyJet, delivering the exceptional passenger experiences that keep our customers coming back.

"With more than 300 aircraft servicing 154 airports over 981 routes, one thing we’re not short on is opportunity. And this role opens the door to a career full of variety, support and possibilities to quickly progress into positions such as Cabin Manager or other cabin services roles."
