Europe’s best destinations for Christmas markets are ‘enchanting’

With just six Mondays to go until Christmas, many Britons are already getting into the festive spirit. If you’re looking to make this season extra special, why not book a holiday to one of Europe’s prettiest festive cities?

Whether you’re hunting for a spiced mulled wine under the Christmas lights or a chance to buy last-minute presents, there are a few European destinations that pack a little extra festive punch.

The expert travel team at Hilton have recommended four of Europe’s most Christmassy cities and each of the destinations has plenty of markets to explore.

Berlin

Christmas markets are a beloved German tradition and Berlin has some of the country’s best. Over one hundred markets take place in the German capital every year.

There’s a huge range to explore. At Potsdamer Platz, children can take on the huge toboggan run at Winter World. Spandau’s old town alleys come alive with one of the city’s more traditional markets.

Berlin City Hall has an atmospheric ice-rink while WeihnachtsZauber Gendarmenmarkt is one of the best spots to sample a traditional currywurst.

And if you are looking for somewhere to stay nearby Hampton by Hilton Berlin City Centre Alexanderplatz has rooms on offer in December from €93 (approximately £81.13).

‌Budapest

The Hungarian capital is home to one of Europe’s prettiest Christmas markets. Budapest’s lights make the city look like a fairytale during winter.

Although the sugary treat is enjoyed all year round, there’s nothing better than a chimney cake from a Christmas market on a winter’s day.

After a busy day exploring the city’s Christmas celebrations, head to one of Budapest’s thermal spas to unwind.
