Family flee ‘cold, wet and expensive’ UK beach town and jet to ‘cheaper’ Turkey
Plenty of Brits have been opting for staycations in recent years rather than a holiday abroad. The cost of living crisis means that a trip to the seaside for a weekend often feels like a more affordable option.
Unfortunately, not all UK seaside towns are as charming as tourists hope – especially when the British weather lets them down. In fact, some tourists have slammed a popular spot – and chosen to shell out for a trip to Turkey instead to get over their disappointment.
The beachgoers claimed that Weston-super-Mare beach in Somerset had "no deckchairs" and was "cold and wet", on Tripadvisor. They left grumpy and disappointed in their holiday – and shared their distaste online.

While the terrible weather is no surprise – especially this year – there’s lots to love about Weston-super-Mare, reports DevonLive. Thousands of us park up there each year to head onto the long stretch of golden sand.
It’s also great for kite surfing, water sports and other beach games. In addition to the sand and sea, Weston-super-Mare beach has many traditional seaside occupations to offer: donkey rides, children's rides, the Grand Pier and The Bay Café, located at the former iconic Tropicana Lido.
You can also get beachside favourites like fish and chips, ice cream and doughnuts. But, that wasn’t enough to keep this family around.
Ritcher on Tripadvisor wrote: "Cold, wet and extortionately expensive. 2nd day of a camping holiday with the children for 2 weeks. Cold, wet and extortionately expensive, we've given up and booked an AL holiday to Turkey and £300 cheaper, we fly out tomorrow!"
Another visitor described the beach as "Rubbish" adding: "Awful place, weather not good, pier terrible, shopping disgusting, never want to go here again, Llandudno coming back."
Barbra posted: "No deckchairs! Took my elderly mother so we could have a few hours relaxing on the beach. Not a deck chair in sight. All fastened securely away. Really? Seemed like you didn’t want anyone there.
"The parking machines were a nightmare. And that hideous scrap metal structure in the guise of art. Who on earth allowed that. So disappointed with the town. Shame as our hotel was 5*".
The critiques of the beach are just a handful of the negative reviews left by tourists, but they are largely overshadowed by positive experiences.
One said: "I had not visited Weston for many years. The beach was clean and we did see the sea but there was a muddy mush before we could get to the sea that stopped us actually reaching it. A nice(ish) sandy beach that is worth the visit on a nice day."
Whilst another visitor said: "Miles of good clean sand with regular safety patrols. Loads of typical beach activities. A great place for a fun day out with the kids."
