Flight attendant explains ‘annoying’ thing passengers do with luggage
There are plenty of annoying events that can occur on planes – from crying babies to not getting the meal that you prefer. But, it seems the cabin crew have their own set of behaviours they find irritating from passengers.
Of course, it’s to be expected that drunken or disorderly holidaymakers will annoy flight attendants. While another crew member has even said she hates when flyers press the call button to ask for water.
Now, Chris Kellum, a flight attendant who works for a budget US airline has shared the one thing passengers do that irritates him the most – and it could have a negative effect on your journey too. He posted a video on TikTok explaining what passengers should never do.

One of his main bug bears was when holidaymakers bring oversized luggage into the cabin. Most airlines have a guide on the bags you’re allowed to bring with you onto the plane.
The guides can range from a backpack or handbag to a small suitcase. You can usually find the measurements allowed on your airline’s website.
Chris explained why it’s important to follow the bag measurement rules when boarding a flight. He claims that when he sees passengers trying to force bags that don’t fit into the overhead lockers it frustrates cabin crew.
This is because the oversized bags are likely to be taken off you and moved to the hold. While you probably won’t be charged for this it does mean that you’ll have to wait at the baggage reclaim for your property before you can set off for your hotel.
In Chris’ video, he explained how the steward will always say at the beginning of the flight announcement: "If you place a larger bag in the overhead bin we ask that you make sure it closes before you take your seat."
A companion acted the part of the passenger and left his suitcase hanging out of the overhead locker as it was too large.
Chris then approached him and said: "The overhead bin is not closing. So unfortunately it doesn't fit, so we're going to have to check your bag."
If you don’t want to have to put your bag in the hold – and everything in it you’ve packed for the journey – then it’s best to follow the rules. In addition to this, if you’re unable to shove your bag into the locker the flight attendants can't help you.
Air hostess Cierra Mist explained why many cabin crew members refuse to help passengers stow their carry-on bags in the overhead lockers.
She said online: "We actually don’t start to get paid until the moment that aeroplane door shuts and the handbrake gets lifted.
"On top of that, if it’s because you’re having trouble lifting it, you can easily get your packed [luggage] checked at the gate for free."
A fellow flight attendant, Jamela Hardwick told Inside Edition that she wouldn’t help a customer with their baggage because she could injure herself. "If we get hurt while putting that bag in the overhead bin, we do not get to write it off as an on-job injury," she explained.
